他是从1990年7岁时，刘翔被上海市管弄小学的校田径队教练仲锁贵选中练习田径，从此与体育结缘。1993年，四年级即将结束的时，刘翔被顾宝刚老师选入上海市普陀区少体校，主练跳高、辅练100米短跑等，开始了职业运动生涯。1995年，一次市100米跑比赛的机会，被上海体育运动技术学院田径队二线队教练方水泉看中，随后进入开始练习跨栏。1996年获得上海市少年田径锦标赛乙组冠X。这是刘翔记忆中获得的第一个跨栏冠X看跨栏运动员，跨向冠X之路的。

In 1993, when the fourth grade was coming to an end, Liu Xiang was selected by Mr. Gu Baogang to Shanghai Putuo District junior sports school, where he majored in high jump, assisted in 100 meter sprint, and began his professional sports career. In 1995, Fang Shuiquan, coach of the second-line team of the track and field team of Shanghai Institute of sports technology, took a chance to compete in the 100 meter race, and then began to practice hurdles. In 1996, he won the champion of group B of Shanghai Youth Track and field championship. This is Liu Xiang"s first hurdle champion in memory. He looks at the hurdler and strides to the champion.
